On Wednesday 5 June Habinteg released their new Insight report ‘A Forecast for Accessible Homes’.
The findings show how few Local Planning Authorities outside London have policies that specify the optional building regulations M4(2) or M4(3) i.e. homes which are designed to be accessible and adaptable or suitable for wheelchair users respectively.
Outside London just 22% of new homes are set to be built to Building Regs M4(2) or its predecessor lifetime homes standard.
Just 1% outside London are required to be built to the M4(3) wheelchair user dwelling standard.
